Do you find yourself asking the question, Does L-Arginine Help Improve Type 2 Diabetes?

Are you suffering from type 2 diabetes? Have you been wondering Does L-Arginine Help Improve Type 2 Diabetes? If so, you may want to consider adding more nuts to your diet and eliminating candy. Atlantis: HEALTH

Does L-Arginine Help Improve Type 2 Diabetes

Nuts are naturally high in L-Arginine.

The reason? Not only do nuts have almost zero levels of sugar, but they also help get rid of it. There is research newly discovered that shows that the amino acid arginine which is commonly found in all types of nuts including almonds and hazelnuts, can be just as useful as some well-established type 2 diabetes drugs at metabolizing glucose in mice. Mice are commonly used to measure potential outcomes prior to human trials.

So You’re Not a Mouse. Does L-Arginine Help Improve Type 2 Diabetes?

Test have been performed and in experiments conducted on both thin (insulin sensitive) and fat (insulin resistant) mice, researchers from the University of Cincinnati and the University of Copenhagen in Denmark observed impressive results where L-Arginine improved the burning of glucose by as much as 40 percent. Does L-Arginine Help Improve Type 2 Diabetes? This is amazing and L-Arginine also stimulated the production of the glucagon-like peptide, or GLP-1, which is an intestinal hormone that modulates your appetite.

Should you rely on L-Arginine supplements from the vitamin store? Not so fast. However, that doesn’t mean people with type 2 diabetes should go out and buy arginine supplements. They do not work in the same way as dietary arginine, which stimulates GLP-1.

There are many companies offering L-Arginine supplements.

When it comes to patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, nuts alone may have little if any effect to reverse type 2 diabetes yet a complete alteration in lifestyles like getting a handle on diet and exercise, your sleep habits, among other things show promise to potentially reverse the early stages of type 2 diabetes.

Can L-Arginine reduce insulin resistance? Does L-Arginine Help Improve Type 2 Diabetes?

The challenge for diabetics is that they cannot sufficiently utilize carbohydrates such as sugar and sugar is a vitally significant source of energy. The significant role that insulin plays in the process is that as an endogenous hormone that plays the major role in sugar metabolism. With type 2 diabetes, the production of insulin is lower in those affected. Moreover, the cells in the bodies of those who have type 2 diabetes do not effectively absorb the insulin that is available.

In our bodies, the chemical energy and heat that keeps us alive come from glucose molecules. Glucose, which is often referred to as blood sugar, is the primary product of the digestion of carbohydrates that we eat and, to a smaller extent, of the fats and proteins. It is the primary fuel of our bodies when these sugar molecules are burned with the oxygen that we breathe in. Try to imagine that every cell in your body as a tiny “bonfire” that you must constantly supply with new wood to burn. This “unending supply” of glucose molecules ensure that the metabolic fire of our body burns bright.  Type 2 diabetes sets in when this process is blunted by insiulin resistance. L-Arginine may provide an effective way to help those with type 2 diabetes.

Cell Sensitivity. Does L-Arginine Help Improve Type 2 Diabetes?

Why does this happen? Because the sensitivity of the cells to insulin is dramatically reduced. The membranes of the cell are cannot identify the hormone and as a result, they do not absorb enough of it. The cause and effect of insulin resistance are that not enough energy is produced in the cells, sugar is not degraded in the blood, and it accumulates in the blood. The result is that blood sugar levels rise. Lefty unchecked, chronically elevated blood sugar levels lead to damage of the blood vessels and calcification. This typically will result in illnesses like stroke or heart attack. Diabetes mellitus type 2 is mostly associated with older people, as the insulin sensitivity in the cells decreases with age.

Is L-Arginine – a critical amino acid for insulin absorption?

In a study performed by European researchers, results demonstrated that the amino acid L-Arginine plays a significant and important role in the sensitivity of the body’s cells towards insulin. L-Arginine is a precursor of nitric oxide, a molecule that exerts a direct effect on insulin sensitivity. In the study, there was six type 2 diabetes patients who were split into two groups. Both of the groups consumed a normal diabetic diet. One of the groups was given a placebo to be taken 3x daily for one month. The other group was given L-Arginine over the same time period. The insulin sensitivity levels of the patients measured regularly by the scientists throughout the entire duration of the study. The results were conclusive and demonstrated that L-Arginine increased the group’s insulin sensitivity by more than 30 percent as compared to the placebo group. L-Arginine also resulted in a significant relaxation of the blood vessels causing blood pressure in the patients to be reduced significantly.
